Punjab Congress pays tributes to Nehru

Glowing tributes were paid to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister and founder of modern India, on his 53rd death anniversary here today.
A simple and solemn function was organised at the Punjab Congress Bhawan, which was presided over by Punjab Congress Committee (PCC) president Sunil Jakhar.
"It was because of the great progressive, secular and liberal vision of the first Prime Minister that India today is the world's largest and successful democracy.
"When we look around and see the strife in other countries, we appreciate the vision of our great leaders like Pandit Nehru, who bequeathed great traditions of democracy and secularism to us," the PCC president said.

Jakhar said not only did Pandit Nehru lay the strong political and democratic foundations of the country, he also scripted all inclusive development, raising the living standards of millions of people across the country.
Had it not been Pandit Nehru, India might not have progressed in economic, scientific, agriculture and democratic fields, he said.
Several Congress leaders and legislators were present on the occasion.
