Punjab govt increases compensation to rape victims

Punjab government today enhanced the compensation paid to rape and rape-cum-murder victims and their relatives.
Maximum compensation of Rs 3 lakh would be given to rape victims, while up to Rs 4 lakh would be given to relatives of those murdered after sexual assault, an official spokesman said.
Earlier, the compensation amount was Rs 2 lakh for rape victims and Rs 3 lakh for rape-cum-murder.
Besides, the state government also gives compensation of Rs 50,000 to victims of human trafficking, child-abuse and kidnapping, Rs 10,000 to simple loss or injury to child victims and Rs 20,000 to rehabilitation of women and children, he said.

The spokesman said Rs 3 lakh was given to victim of acid attack in case of disfigurement of face and Rs 50,000 for other cases and injuries.
