Punjab Government today notified the constitution of two-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the PPSC recruitment scam.
The SIT, headed by former CBI joint director M S Bali IPS (Retd), and member Suresh Arora, DGP-cum-Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau, has been constituted as per directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court, to which it would furnish reports from time to time, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said.
The SIT has been asked to inquire into the case within 4 months, and all departments have been told to assist it in the case, the spokesperson said.
An operational team consisting of serving/retired officers/rank from the CBI, Chandigarh Police, Central Police Organisations and Punjab Vigilance Bureau would be at the disposal of the SIT, he said, adding it would be headquartered in Patiala.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court, in November 2013, had appointed the two-member SIT to probe allegations of rampant corruption in the recruitment of 312 doctors by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) in 2009.
A PIL filed by former Punjab DGP K P S Gill had sought constitution of an SIT and a time-bound, court-monitored investigation into the scam, which came to light after reports were published in sections of media.
