He said, "the monument could be adopted as World Heritage site as it has a great potential to attract tourists from within and outside of the country."
Badal also approved to constitute a committee for preparing a detailed plan for this project, according to a spokesman here.
The decision was taken by the chief minister during a meeting with senior officials of the Tourism and Cultural Affairs department here today.
Badal said he had personally visited the place of "great historic significance", where the Royal families' couples used to stay while going to and coming back from Lahore during the Mughal period.
The place was initially built by Mughal emperor Babur and later rebuilt by Shah Jahan in the middle of Delhi and Lahore along the Grand Trunk road, Badal said, adding, it could be adopted as World Heritage site as it has a great potential to attract tourists from within and outside of the country.
Badal instructed the concerned department to undertake the renovation work in such a manner that the original texture and paintings on the walls and the roofs, depicting Mughal architectural proficiency could be preserved in their original form.
