As the next general elections inch closer, UPA government has turned to radio and TV serials which will be aired on Doordarshan and All India Radio to highlight its programmes and achievements among the common man.
The All India Radio is telecasting a radio serial 'Jamunia' from today, sources said, adding that a plan is underway to start a serial on Doordarshan which would feature real life success stories of people who have benefited from the government's policies.
Jamunia is a story of a poor but highly motivated woman who through her courage and commitment gives a voice to her fellow villagers and makes them aware of various schemes and programmes of Government, a statement released by the I&B ministry said.
The villagers start looking up to her and this generates a new awakening amongst them, the statement added. The serial to be broadcast in 26 episodes at 9.30 PM every Friday brings out a picture which highlights the rapid transformation towards development, which lakhs of villages in India are presently undergoing, it said.
Jamunia would be broadcast on Indraprastha channel of AIR Delhi while all multi-channel stations in the Hindi belt will take this broadcast on one of their channels.
While Doordarshan and AIR would run these shows, the government has been running a high profile 'Bharat Nirman' campaign on TV, radio and the social media. Officials said that campaign song of the Bharat Nirman campaign 'meelon hamein jaana hai' had been broadcast many times on the AIR channels.
An official source said that the song has been telecast approximately "5,250 times and it had caught the imagination of the people as AIR channels have received listener's requests to play the song also.
