The Railways has decided to set up a Railway Claims Tribunal bench in Allahabad to provide quick relief to victims of train accidents hailing from nearby districts.
"The new bench will cater to Banda, Bhadohi (Sant Ravidas Nagar), Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Kannauj, Kaushambi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh, Allahabad, Sonbhadra (Robertsganj) and Varanasi districts," General Manager NCR (Northern-Central Railway) Rajiv Chaudhry told PTI.
This will be the 20th bench of the Railway Claims Tribunal in the country. The Railway minister has made a formal announcement and a notification in the Gazette of the Government of India issued, he said.
The GM said till now, the matters concerning the passengers of districts around Bundelkhand and Allahabad were taken up in Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Ghazibad which created problems not only for the passengers but also for the Railway staff. This new bench will give relief to all from travelling long distances to get the claims redressed.
The GM expressed confidence that this bench will start functioning by November.
Apart from this, the administrative head of the North Zone will also be the Vice-Chairman (Technical), Allahabad, who will have under his jurisdiction the Railway Claims Tribunal benches of Allahabad, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gorakhpur and Lucknow.
Despite having three large divisions and being an important railway zone, there was no Railway Claims Tribunal under the jurisdiction of the North-Central Railway.
