A 54-year-old gangman of the Indian Railways was run over by a train near Khajurala village here, police said today.
Local GRP official Harmesh Lal identified the deceased as Nanne Singh, a resident of the Kahjurala Railway Colony, around 10 kms from here.
The incident took place when Singh was crossing the tracks near his quarters yesterday, he said.
The gangman, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Hartoi village, was posted with the Jalandhar Cantonement section of the railways, he said.
Lal said the body was handed over to the family members after postmortem at the Civil hospital.
