Railways' earnings up by over 12 per cent

Railways have earned Rs 73,403.67 crore during April-September 2014 as compared to Rs 65,525.85 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.02 per cent.
The earnings from goods transportation during April- September period were Rs 48,771.58 crore compared to Rs 44,162.15 crore during the corresponding period last year, a growth of 10.44 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.
The income from passenger travel during this period was Rs 21,079.09 crore as against Rs 18,099.80 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 16.46 per cent.
Revenue from other coaching amounted to Rs 1979.91 crore in the six-month period while it was Rs 1850.17 crore last year, showing an increase of 7.01 per cent.
The total passengers booked during the period were 4253.32 million compared to 4255.81 million in the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.06 per cent.
