It was a pleasant day in the national capital with overcast conditions resulting in a drop in temperature. Several places in the city also recorded traces of rainfall.
The maximum in the city was recorded at 37.2 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average while the minimum temperature was pegged at 26 degrees Celsius.
The humidity level oscillated between 71 and 37 per cent.
Moderate to heavy rains lashed several places in Punjab and some areas of Haryana, providing relief to people from the heat.
Mohali, Ropar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Phagwara and Amritsar in Punjab received rains. Panchkula, Kalka, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Hisar and Yamunanagar in Haryana were lashed by showers.
Three members of a family were killed and another was seriously injured when the roof of their house caved due to rains in Moga district of Punjab.
Amritsar received 22.1 mm rainfall and recorded 32.1 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana, too, registered an identical maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius and received 48 mm rains.
The mercury dipped at most of the places in Rajasthan due to western disturbances and rains in the state.
Maximum temperature fell by one to five notches at most places with Kota being the hottest in the state at 41.5 degrees Celsius followed by Barmer at 40.6 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer and Bikaner both 40.5 degrees Celsius and Churu 40 degrees Celsius.
In Jammu andKashmir's Rajouri district, a man and his daughter were killed when lightning struck a high-altitude grazing field during rains last night.
Three persons including a teenage boy and his sister were electrocuted in two separate incidents in Tamil Nadu where it rained in many places.
The state capital received 39.6 mm rains while Gaya and Bhagalpur experienced traces of rainfall.
Patna registered a maximum of 27.4 degrees Celsius while Gaya recorded a high of 35.2 degrees Celsius.
Further drop in temperature in most parts of Odisha following more rains brought considerable respite from the sweltering heat.
The mercury remained below the 40-degree mark in the state. Bhubaneswar recorded a high of 38 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature in Cuttack was 37 degrees Celsius.
Parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha also witnessed rain and thunderstorm causing drop in the mercury.
Shivpuri in Madnhya Pradesh recorded highest maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius.
