Chairing the monthly review meeting of police department, Kataria asked officials to identify places like any land, temple, mosque, cremation ground which are disputed among locals and solve them.
The minister asked police officials to settle any communal dispute peacefully with a dialogue, a statement said.
He also asked senior officials to prepare and forward a proposal for the construction of new residential quarters for police staff, maintenance of police station building and police lines, improvement in training system and other activities.
Additional Chief Secretary Home A Mukhopadhyay suggested use of police dogs to search mobiles in jails and said that a pilot project could be initiated in any of the jails in the state.
DGP Manoj Bhatt, ADG P K Singh and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
