: Even as a group of citizens was celebrating the 137th birthday of freedom fighter Rajaji, his statue was removed from a main road here to pave way for construction of a flyover.
The statue had been installed by a private organisation to celebrate the 60th birthday of its founder on Gandhipuram in 1978.
Since the statue was reportedly an obstacle to carry out flyover construction, the corporation today removed it and kept in its custody.
The statute will be erected once a suitable place was found, police said.
