The Supreme Court verdict on triple talaq today was welcomed by several BJP leaders such as Vasundhara Raje and Anurag Thakur.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Raje hailed it as a "historic" judgment.
In a release, she said the verdict upheld the self- respect and equality of Muslim women and it would lead to their empowerment.
Welcoming the verdict of the apex court, BJP MP Thakur said it was the "beginning of a new era for Muslim mothers and daughters".
"I welcome the historic and landmark judgment of the Supreme Court on triple talaq. Every woman, irrespective of her religion, caste and creed, should enjoy the constitutional rights. This decision ushers in a new era as far as the rights of Muslim mothers and daughters to live a life of dignity is concerned," the MP from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh said.
Thakur congratulated all the women who stood up for their rights and said, "This indeed is a significant step towards building a new India."
Jammu and Kashmir's Minister of State for Education and Tourism Priya Sethi also described the verdict as "historic" and said it granted equality to Muslim women.
"This is the first ever verdict in favour of the Muslim women," she said, adding that the Supreme Court judgment was a "victory for all who believed that personal laws should also be progressive and compliant with the Constitution".
"It is a step towards gender equality, which will empower the women," Sethi said.
She also hailed the efforts of Zakia Soman, the co- founder of the Indian Muslim Women's Movement, which was part of the legal battle to put an end to triple talaq.
The ruling BJP in Uttarakhand welcomed the verdict, saying it heralded the beginning of a new era in the country.
"It is a landmark verdict which will ensure the protection of Muslim women's honour and their right to equality and justice," state BJP chief Ajay Bhatt said in a statement here.
He added that the verdict would help achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a new India.
A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court, by a 3:2 majority, today ruled that the practice of divorce through triple talaq among Muslims was "void, illegal and unconstitutional".
