Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today took stock of the "large scale damage" to border fencing and BSF posts due to floods in Jammu and Kashmir and asked the border guarding force to keep strict vigil on this frontier to curb infiltration.
Officials said Singh, while on his maiden visit to Border Security Force headquarters here, assured the paramilitary force all financial help in this regard and asked the force to swiftly replace the damaged defence mechanism along this border and step up security against infiltration attempts.
The BSF, during the two-hour long interaction with Singh, submitted a proposal seeking funds to accomplish the task quickly.
"The Home Minister assured the force all help in this regard as he asked them to ensure a tight vigil along the Indo-Pakistan border as large scale infrastructure has been damaged because of recent floods which hit the state," they said.
Officials said BSF briefed Singh that there has been extensive damage to over 30 of its border posts.
An official statement issued after the visit said "the government will leave no stone unturned to safeguard our borders and address all important issues related to border security."
He told the BSF brass that "security is the first and foremost requirement for development and therefore our borders should always be safe and secure."
