BJP President Rajnath Singh today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ask Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to withdraw the letter to chief ministers, saying it went against the spirit of the Constitution.
"We demand that the Prime Minister should immediately order the Union Home Minister to withdraw that letter. Shinde's comment is against the spirit of the Constitution. Who is guilty and who is not, will be decided by the court of law. It can't be decided on the basis of caste, creed and religion," the BJP chief said.
Shinde recently wrote to all chief ministers asking them to see that no innocent Muslim youth was wrongfully detained in the name of terror.
"Congress is the biggest communal party of this country. Earlier, the Prime Minister had said that Muslims had the first right on Indian resources. Now our Union Home Minister has written to chief ministers to ensure that no innocent Muslim youth is wrongfully detained in the name of terror. We are saying that no innocent youth should be harassed irrespective of caste, creed and religion," Singh said.
The BJP chief dubbed Congress as the "most communal party" and said that "it indulged in communal and divisive politics whenever any election comes".
"If anybody is responsible for not establishing communal harmony in the country, it is the Congress party. The British had followed the policy of divide and rule. After Independence, Congress has adopted the policy of vote bank politics," he said.
