The Ranchi district administration has asked Jharkhand Social Welfare department to shut down seven children's homes here, including one run by Missionaries of Charity which was recently in the news for illegal sale of babies.
The list of Ranchi-based children's homes for registration cancellations was prepared after a host of infractions were take into account, like violation of juvenile justice norms, poor infrastructure and no proper building, said Ranchi District Social Welfare officer Kanchan Singh.
Other than Nirmal Hriday of Missionaries of Charity, the other six children's homes are -- Lok Vikas, Maharshi Valmiki Viklang Anath Seva Ashram, Anchal Shishu Ashram, Diya Seva Sansthan, Adim Jati Seva Mandal and EDIASS, the officer said.
The alleged selling of babies at Missionaries of Charity, Ranchi, came to limelight in June this year. Deputy Commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray ordered on June 22 a probe into the matter, she said.
The Ranchi district administration sent recommendations to the social welfare department after the probe was launched into the children's homes case, she said.
