The Speaker V Sabapathy, Ministers, legislators and functionaries of various organisations were among those who garlanded the statue.
A team of functionaries of opposition Congress, led by party president A V Subramanian and comprising AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy and opposition leader V Vaithilingam (Reddiar's son) also garlanded the statue.
Reddiar was the second CM (1964-67) after Puducherry became free de jure.He was also Mayor of Nettapakkam Commune panchayat that was functioning under the French pattern of municipal administration. He led freedom movement here and led the then undivided Congress to power after the general elections in 1964 under the Representative of People Act here.
