Underlining the need to conserve energy in all its forms, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said unless it is made a part of the people's lifestyle the scarce resources of energy cannot be conserved.
"We will have to make energy conservation a part of our lifestyle for which collective efforts on part of the state government, institutions working in the sector and individuals are needed," Rawat said, after inaugurating the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight at Indian Institute of Petroleum here.
Stressing the need for creating public awareness about energy conservation, Rawat said the people can be inspired to conserve energy even in their kitchens in a number of ways.
He also asked Indian Institute of Petroleum to evolve a method to educate auto-drivers about the importance of fuel efficiency.
"We praise other countries for what they are doing in the field of energy conservation but hesitate in adopting their methods," the Chief Minister said.
Forest Minister Dinesh Aggrawal said the state government has launched several flagship programmes at the initiative of the chief minister to ensure public participation in environment and energy conservation efforts.
The Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight is being observed from January 16 to January 31 in the state.
