Ready to share our own modest resources: Modi at UN

Extending a helping hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said India is prepared to share its "modest resources" and technology with other developing countries.
He said that each country must of course take its own measures and each government must fulfil its responsibility to support growth and development.
"At the same time, we also require a genuine international partnership. At one level, it means a better coordination of policy so that our efforts become mutually supportive, not mutually damaging," Modi said in his maiden address to the 193-member UN General Assembly here.
In his speech that lasted for 35 minutes, Modi touched upon a number of issues but the bottom line was the same - the need for greater cooperation between the countries.

"India is part of the developing world, but we are prepared to share our modest resources with those countries that need this assistance as much as we do," he said.
Modi underlined that the member countries should be honest in shouldering responsibilities in meeting the challenges.

"The world had agreed on a beautiful balance of collective action - common but differentiated responsibilities. That should form the basis of continued action.
"This also means that the developed countries must fulfil their commitments for funding and technology transfer," he said.
Modi underlined that national action is imperative.
"Technology has made many things possible. We need imagination and commitment. India is prepared to share its technology and capabilities, just as we have announced a free satellite for the SAARC countries," he said.

Modi said the world needs a more comprehensive and concerted direct international action.
He pointed out that there are 2.5 billion people without access to basic sanitation; 1.3 billion people without access to electricity; and 1.1 billion people without access to drinking water in the world.
"In India, the most important aspects of my development agenda are precisely to focus on these issues," he said.
Prime Minister added that the eradication of poverty must remain at the core of the Post-2015 Development Agenda and command the members' fullest attention.
