"Red Dwarf" will begin shooting two series back-to-back in the autumn, with series 12 expected to be broadcast in 2017, reported Digital Spy.
Craig Charles has dedicated his time to the cult sci-fi comedy, having announced his departure from Coronation Street earlier this year.
Robert Llewellyn and Danny John-Jules will also be back as Kryten and Cat.
"Red Dwarf" originally aired eight series on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999, before Dave revived the sci-fi sitcom for mini-series "Back to Earth" in 2009.
