About 300 members of 'Sarvadalio Paschim Zila Udbastu Unnayan Committee' are taking part in the relay hunger strike near the Swami Vivekananda Stadium here.
Convener of the Committee, Gopal Laskar, claimed they went to the governors and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar several times since 2000 but got nothing but verbal assurance on resettlement.
"This time we want a written assurance from the government otherwise this movement would continue," he said.
He said about 20,000 families were displaced following insurgents' attack since 1998 in different parts of the state.
Their demands include resettlement of the displaced people, compensation of movable and immovable properties damaged due to insurgents attack, providing BPL cards to the displaced families and giving old-age and widow pensions among the displaced people.
