Launching a scathing attack on BJP, NCP General Secretary Tariq Anwar today said raking up of religious conversion issue was a "well thought conspiracy" of the saffron party for "polarisation of vote" and divert attention from Union government's "non-performance".
"Raking up issue of religious conversion is a well thought conspiracy of the BJP and RSS to divert attention of people from non-performance of Narendra Modi government in past six months," Anwar told reporters.
Anwar, who is NCP Lok Sabha member from Katihar, said its not that BJP and RSS are champion of Hinduism.
"They are doing all these as part of vote politics to remain in power," he said.
"Since Narendra Modi government has nothing to show as achievement in the past six months to the people hence they are resorting to communal agenda before Assembly elections in Bihar in 2015 and then Uttar Pradesh," the NCP General Secretary alleged.
"During campaign for general elections, Narendra Modi used to say we would make the entire country a Gujarat and is making efforts to divide society on communal lines across the country as he did in Gujarat," Anwar said.
"Through controversial remarks of Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Yogi Adityanath, BJP is trying to disturb communal harmony in the country," he said.
He said, "its beyond comprehension to belief that these leaders are making controversial statements without consent of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has total control of the party and the government."
On Bihar, Anwar said Narendra Modi had promised to accord special category status to the state during polls but nothing has come out so far in six months of his rule.
