The court also directed the Centre and state governments to file fresh status report in the matter and sought the details of the encroachment already removed so far.
The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, passed the order after it suo motu took up as public interest litigation a news report, in vernacular paperin 2014, on illegal encroachment on the road side on national highways.
The court listed the matter on September 5 for further hearing.
