Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Sukhpal Singh Khaira alleged the "belated" and "pre-meditated" inquiry ordered by the chief minister into the alleged scam was a "tailor-made exercise", to absolve minister Rana Gurjeet Singh of the accusations through a "handpicked and controversial commission head".
The chief minister had ordered constitution of the one- man commission following allegations involving cabinet minister Rana Gurjeet Singh in the sand mining auctions conducted by the Department of Mining in May this year.
Khaira today told reporters, "The Justice Narang Commission report is an attempt by the chief minister to waste the public money to give clean chit to a minister."
He said by failing to take action against a corrupt minister, the claims of Amarinder Singh about zero tolerance to corruption have fallen flat.
"The whole exercise was farce and done just to give clean chit to Rana Gurjeet," the AAP leader claimed.
The inquiry panel had been set up after giving ample time to the "accused" minister, to do a cleanup job of his and his company accounts, Khaira alleged.
