A resident doctor of a state-run college here has been suspended for a week for allegedly harassing a junior and the authorities have constituted a two-member committee to probe the incident.
Dr A K Gupta, Head of Orthopaedic department of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College (GSVM) said that resident doctor Hemraj, who had phoned his junior Harsh Vardhan to come to his room, has been suspended.
To probe the role of five other residents, who were named in a complaint filed by Hemraj, college authorities have constituted a two-member investigation committee.
On the basis of the team's report it would be clear whether it was a case of ragging, Gupta added.
Meanwhile, Inspector of Swaroopnagar police station, Rajiv Dwivedi said that ragging would be added in the case only when the medical college committee terms it so.
Harsh Vardhan has also left for a week-long holiday.
According to hospital sources, he had earlier served in Provincial Medical Services (PMS) of Uttar Pradesh government for 10 years before joining the medical college for post- graduation because of which he had issues with his seniors.
Harsh Vardhan had received a call from Hemraj on May 12, asking him to come to his room.
When he reached there, six senior resident doctors of orthopaedic department including Hemraj told him to take up the posture of a rooster, police said.
When he refused to do so, they locked the room and beat him up, police said, adding the junior doctor managed to escape and reached the police station.
Based on the complaint, cases were registered against the six doctors under relevant sections of the IPC.
