Residents move NGT over sewer connectivity in Kaushambi

A residents welfare association has moved the National Green Tribunal alleging lack of sewer connectivity in Kaushambi prompting the green panel to seek response from the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation.
A bench headed by Justice U D Salvi issued notice to Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, Ghaziabad Development Authority and Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited while seeking their reply by January 22, the next date of hearing.
The directions came while hearing a plea by Kaushambi Apartments Residents Welfare Association (KARWA) which alleged that land sold off by Ghaziabad Development Authority to Yashoda Hospital, Supertech, Raj Residency and others in eastern part of Kaushambi area does not have sewer connection.

"As the sewer lines were never laid by private builders and entire untreated sewer is being dumped directly in drain in violation of environmental laws / NGT orders.
"Ghaziabad Development Authority as the development authority did not check provisioning of these basic facilities at the time of according clearances for occupation to them," the plea said.
It has also contended that Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), which distributes power, has dug up large portions of road for laying high tension cables and has not levelled it.
"However, loose soil and earth are lying on road for many months without being removed resulting in massive pollution," it said.

"Waste/sewer water from an adjacent village Bhovapur as well as from multi-storied buildings on privately owned plot area in Kaushambi is now being dumped directed in newly constructed storm water drain instead of being connected to sewer network in violation of environmental laws /NGT orders," the plea said.
