Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that his government is committed to do everything for the youth and asked educated young Nagas to become entrepreneurs so that society can be transformed into producers also rather than being only consumers.
The Chief Minister's remarks came at an award function where Inato Khulu was given the Entrepreneur Award by NGO YouthNet for being an enterprising Naga youth here last night.
Rio said the government is launching a special development zone along the valleys so that job opportunities can be created to improve the state's economy.
"Given the opportunity, Naga youth can excel in every field, including entrepreneurship. But the bottom line is the people should have a responsible attitude."
People from other states come to Nagaland for jobs, while the local people remain unemployed.
"We should be willing to do every kind of job in order to be employed," he said.
Rio also exhorted entrepreneurs to maintain consistency and commitment so that people's trust in them is built.
Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka Rajeev Chandrashekhar, who handed over the prize money of Rs five 5 lakh to Khulu, lauded the effort of the state government and YouthNet that works for the uplift of the Naga youth.
"This is an unique effort," he said and hoped that other states in the country would also follow suit.
Maintaining that entrepreneurs will shape the face of society in particular and the country in general, he said that entrepreneurship should be given top priority so that such people should come up with brand names to attract investment from beyond the state.
Chandrasekhar had sponsored the award and Khalo was selected for his business idea from among top five finalists, who along with 13 others had undergone a rigorous combination of class-room lectures, case study discussions, group activities and individual project development for five weeks in Kohima under the aegis of YouthNet.
YouthNet works in collaboration with the department of youth resources and sports of Nagaland to create opportunities of entrepreneurship for at least 5000 Naga youths by 2018.
