Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has acknowledged the steps taken by the Government of Assam to bring normalcy and a secured environment in the violence-affected areas of Karbi Anglong district to enable displaced persons to return to their villages.
In a letter to his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi yesterday, Rio thanked him for the prompt action taken to instill confidence in the minds of the people as well as to provide relief measures.
However, Rio said there was an immediate need to plan the resettlement of all displaced persons belonging to both the Karbi and Rengma communities residing in relief camps in Assam and Nagaland.
The Chief Minister said Nagaland has put in measures to check illegal and smuggled arms in and around Dimapur.
He also said the state has appointed a high level committee of senior officers to go into the causes of the ethnic conflict, which had resulted in loss of several lives in addition to a SIT, to specifically investigate the killing of nine persons belonging to the Karbi community, whose bodies were recovered on the night of January 3 at Pachaspura area near Dimapur.
