: CPI(M) will take a call on contesting the keenly watched bypoll to Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency here on June 3, party's state unit Secretay G Ramakrishnan said today.
"CPI(M) has not decided on this issue. It will be discussed in the meeting of the State Committee on June 3," he told reporters here.
In one of the keenly watched bypolls in the recent times, Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency goes to polls on June 27, as the election was necessitated due to the resignation of AIADMK legilsator P Vetrivel on May 17.
It is being widely speculated that his party supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa could contest the election, following her acquittal in a wealth case by the Karnataka High Court on May 11.
On September 27, 2014, she was convicted in the case, and was automatically disqualified as MLA. Following her return she has to be elected to the Assembly within six months.
CPI (M) had contested the Srirangam bypoll held early this year. The Assembly segment was represented by Jayalalithaa prior to her conviction.
Earlier, Ramakrishnan met a delegation of VCK leaders led by its founder Thol.Thirumavalavan who invited CPI (M) to a meeting convened by VCK on June 9 to discuss about alliance parties being given representation in the government.
