Roll back surge pricing, demands Kejriwal

The decision to adopt dynamic surge pricing in railways was dubbed as the "biggest anti-people decision" of the BJP government by the Aam Aadmi Party today, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanding that it be "rolled back".
AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha said the introduction of the flexi fare system, under which Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains will charge 10 and 50 per cent more, was a "jolt" to the common man.
"I am in shatabdi right now. Spoke to several people. Everyone is against Modi Govt's surge pricing. AAP strongly opposes surge pricing in railways and demands that it shud be rolled back," Kejriwal tweeted while travelling to Ludhiana.

Chadha claimed that the government is justifying the move by saying the there was a demand supply gap in tickets. "Then why the focus is not on increasing the number of trains and seats?"
"The move amounts to misuse of the Indian government's monopoly over railways. It is clear that the Centre wants to run it through free market principles. They will even do away with the 50 per cent cap subsequently. It's the Narendra Modi government's biggest anti-people decision," Chadha said.
Passengers travelling by Rajdhani, Shatadbi and Duronto trains will have to shell out between 10 and 50 per cent more under a dynamic surge pricing system to be introduced from September 9.

While 10 per cent of the seats will be sold in the normal fare in the beginning, it will go on increasing by 10 per cent with every 10 per cent of berths sold with a ceiling of 50 per cent.
