To welcome foreign drivers and cars, a separate championship known as the Indian Rally Championship (IRC) is also being run concurrently, which will have five rounds in different parts of the country.
While Indian drivers in Indian cars are eligible for the INRC, Indian or Foreign drivers in Indian or Foreign cars are eligible for the IRC, a release from Coimbatore Auto Sports Club, the organisers, said.
The IRC, which is still at a nascent stage, received three entries with the Evo VIII of Abhilash PG and Evo X of Samir Thapar being the top contenders in this championship.
The rally covers around 200 km, which include 75 km of six special stages (driving tracks) on gravel roads.
The route of the stages are closed sections of public/private roads which have been disclosed to competitors for reconnaissance.
Shakedown, a concept introduced this year, is a procedure conducted to provide some pre-rally practice and testing to all the competitors.
