Rs 1 lakh assistance to family of man who died in bank queue

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today announced Rs one lakh assistance to the family members of a man who died while standing in a queue at a bank branch in Palamau district to exchange demonetised notes.
The elderly person, identified as Ramchandra Paswan of Kandi village, died while standing in the line at the bank branch in Mohammadganj on Wednesday, an official release said here.
Das said both security to banks and attention to common people are being given.
In coordination with the RBI and other banks, the state government has taken various measures to minimise difficulties of people in rural areas in exchanging and depositing scrapped banknotes, the release said.
A mobile team will be set up comprising district administration, police and bank officials to send cash to 102 villages where there are no banking facilities, the release said.

Meanwhile, a report from Hazaribag said police have seized demonetised currency notes worth Rs 23 lakh from two cars separately.
Hazaribagh SP Bhimsen Tuti said a private car was coming from Nimiaghat in Giridih District to Hazaribag town when it was intercepted by police. Police found Rs 10 lakh in that car.
Businessman Binod Kumar Sahu, who was carrying the money, said he was taking the cash to hand it over to his relatives.
In the second incident, the police recovered Rs 13 lakh in old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from three businessmen at a checkpost at Barhi. The persons, who were carrying the cash, told police that the cash was to make payments to labourers.
The police interrogated the four persons and informed the income tax department about it, police said.
All the police stations in the district have been directed to set up checkpost in their respective police stations to check vehicles.
Earlier, the East Singhbhum district police had seized a sackful of damaged demonetised notes from Ramnagar area under Kadma police station of Jamshedpur on Tuesday.
