This is a part of the steel plant's endeavour towards developing niche products to cut down the import burden of the country apart from making the requisite steel available to the downstream domestic manufacturers, a RSP release said today.
The special plate plant (SPP) of RSP that supplies steel to the defence sector has been continuously innovating and evolving new grades of plates to cater to the changing needs, it said.
The DMR 292 A grade for the Navy and armour plates for bullet proof applications are two examples of new products churned out by SPP, the release said.
Recently RSP had rolled out and supplied boiler quality plates of thickness 140 mm in the grade IS 2002 GR-II for the first time, which is again an import substitute, it said.
Besides, the Hardox 400 grade quenched, the tempered plates developed by SPP are being used in making of earth moving equipment, it said.
