Besides, weakness in the dollar against other currencies overseas supported the rupee, forex dealers said.
The rupee had lost 8 paise to close at 66.52 against the US dollar yesterday on month-end demand for the American currency from importers despite a lower greenback overseas.
The benchmark BSE Sensex was quoting lower by 55.65 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 25,547.45 in early trade.
