Jaswinder Singh Aheer, the SAD (Amritsar) candidate from Phagwara, today could not file his nomination as he allegedly reached late in the office of SDM-cum-RO.
But he, alongwith Rajinder Singh Fauji, state executive member of SAD (Amritsar) and party activist Resham Singh Pappi, alleged foul play and claimed that they had reached in time but the RO discriminated against them by declining to entertain the nomination.
But SDM-cum-RO Balbir Raj Singh strongly denied the allegation.
He said that nomination papers of the candidate were incomplete and he was asked to complete them.
Since the closing time for submitting nomination was 3 PM, three calls were made for any one left out and after none came in, the doors were closed at the stipulated time, the RO said.
The SAD (Amritsar) claimed that they had met Observer Alka Tandon who had "kept" their file.
The party leaders said they had brought it to the notice of party president Simranjit Singh Mann.
If required, we will meet the Chief Electoral Officer and write to the Election Commission about it, they said.
We may also move court for getting justice, they said.
Another candidate, Hans Raj also alleged that he was denied entry into RO's office for filing nomination as an Independent.
But the returning officer said his nomination papers were also incomplete.
Shiv Sena candidate Kamal also reached late and could not file nomination.
Accompanied by Sena's state vice-president Inderjit Karwal and others, he came running to RO's office but drew blank as it was closed at 3 PM.
But Sena candidate and other activists returned peacefully without complaining against anyone.
Today was the last day for filing of nomination papers for the February 4 Assembly polls in Punjab.
