The ruling SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab today swept the civic polls held last week by clinching four of the six Municipal Corporation seats.
Interestingly, BJP was ahead of its partner SAD in three seats.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that people of Punjab have reposed faith in "progressive and result oriented" policies of the alliance.
However, former Congress Chief Minister Amarinder Singh alleged that the polls were "brutally manipulated" by the Akalis.
The elections were held for a total of 300 Wards in the six Municipal Corporations. Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara, Pathankot, Mohali and Moga had 50 Wards each.
The results of 298 Wards have been declared by the State Election Commission (SEC) today, an official spokesman said.
Election in one Ward at Pathankot was postponed due to the death of an Independent candidate and result of one Ward in Mohali has been sealed due to an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the spokesman said.
The ruling alliance won majority in the four Municipal Corporations of Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Moga. It reached the half way mark at Phagwara and was three short of majority in Mohali.
The alliance was one short of majority at Phagwara where it won in 25 Wards (SAD-9, BJP-16). The Congress won in 14 Wards, BSP in 2 and remaining nine went to Independents.
BJP on its own won in 29 Wards at Pathankot where the SAD drew a blank. The Congress won in 11 Wards and nine went to the Independents.
The saffron party won more Wards in Hoshiarpur as compared to its senior alliance party. BJP won 17 Wards and SAD got 10 Wards to make it a total of 27 wards. Congress won in 17 Wards and remaining six went to the Independents.
SAD-BJP failed to cross the half way mark at Mohali where it won in 23 Wards (SAD-16, BJP-7). Congress won in 14 Wards and remaining 12 went to Independents.
The SAD won 21 Wards and BJP won in 8 wards in Bathinda to make a total of 29. Congress won in 10 wards and remaining 11 went to Independents.
The ruling alliance won 32 Wards (SAD-24, BJP-8) in Moga where the Congress had its worst performance winning only in one Ward. Independents won 17 Wards.
In the by-election for two Wards in Patiala MC the SAD won both and in a by-election in one Ward at Jalandhar the Congress won.
