Congress today accused the SAD-BJP government in the state of not keeping its promise of surplus power, saying that Punjab has been reeling under "severe" power cuts.
"Even after six years of tall claims and false promises made by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on surplus power, Punjab continues to reel under long and unscheduled power cuts in all sectors including industry, agriculture and domestic," said Punjab Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a release.
Taking a dig at the Punjab government's claims of turning the state into power surplus, Congress alleged that three of the six upcoming thermal plants including Kot Shamir (1,320 MW), Gobindpura (1,320 MW) and Gidderbaha (2,640 MW) have not come up.
Power generation has not started in three other thermal plants, Goindwal Sahib (540 MW), Talwandi Sabo (1,980 MW) and Rajpura (1,400 MW), due to lack of coal linkages, he said.
"No industry can prosper without adequate power supply. Hence, the promise of 24-hours supply in new industrial policy made by Sukhbir Badal, is likely to meet the same fate as that of his earlier unkept promises," he added.
