Four Akali supporters were injured and a police vehicle was damaged when a group of around 20 people threw stones at the cavalcade of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Kandhwala Hazir Khan village in his constituency, Jalalabad, here.
Sukhbir escaped unhurt in the attack that took place last night, Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ketan Baliram Patil, said.
A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC against 12 people out of which two have been arrested, the SP said.
"Those arrested do not have allegiance to any political party... As the convey of Sukhbir was leaving a group of 15 to 20 disgruntled people started pelting stones," he SP said.
It was the first day of Shiromani Akali Dal chief's campaigning from his home turf Jalalabad.
The Akali Dal blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the attack, which was denied by the Arvind Kejriwal's outfit.
Villagers said the protesters were miffed at not getting a chance to talk to Sukhbir about an issue with public toilet's.

Reacting over the stone-pelting incident, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of instigating people against the Akalis, and demanded its disqualification.
"AAP must be disqualified. It's leaders are saying that people of the state will not allow Akali candidates to enter villages to seek votes. AAP leaders are instigating people against their opponents," he alleged.
Meanwhile, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann refuted the allegations by his political opponents that his party was behind the incident.
"We never instigated the people, rather it is the people who themselves claimed that they will not allow Akalis and Congress candidates to enter villages," he said.
Common man is fed up with the traditional parties - Akalis and Congress - in the state, he said.
Punjab is slated to go to polls on February four and the results will be out on March 11.
