In the aftermath of recent attack on Punjab BJP leader's brother, Union Minister Vijay Sampla today visited Tarn Taran and directed the police and district administration to maintain law and order in the district.
The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment met BJP party workers and took stock of the situation with Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police about the incident
This was followed by a detailed meeting with Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials comprising IGP (Border Zone) Ishwar Chander, Amritsar Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh and Amritsar (Rural) SSP Jasdeep Singh.
Ishwar Chander briefed Sampla that the man, who had fired shots, has been arrested along with the weapon and rest of the accused will be arrested shortly, an official spokesman said.
However, the minister directed the DC and SSP of Tarn Taran to ensure that law and order was maintained in the district.
On February 10, Tarn Taran based local BJP leader Rakesh Kumar Raja, younger brother of Punjab Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi escaped unhurt when a group of people led by a local SAD leader, allegedly attacked Raja and fired few gunshots.
The situation took an ugly turn when local leadership of SAD and BJP assembled outside the court of Sub Divisional Magistrate where they indulged in heated arguments that turned into a brawl.
SAD activists had allegedly fired gunshots, besides snatched away the revolver of Raja, the FIR lodged by Raja said.
Following the attack the entire BJP, including state party chief Kamal Sharma and party's national secretary Tarun Chugh had taken a serious note of the incident.
