and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma today met BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at his residence in Gandhinagar, party officials said.
Describing Modi as the "future prime minister", NPP spokesperson James K Sangma said P A Sangma called on the Gujarat chief minister in the afternoon at Gandhinagar.
"It was a courtesy call after the poll was over. It was a cordial meeting," James, who is also the son of P A Sangma and an MLA in Meghalaya, told PTI.
Sangma is an NPP candidate for Tura Lok Sabha constituency in Meghalaya. He had resigned as an MP in 2008 to contest Assembly elections in the state. From then on, his daughter, Agatha Sangma represented the seat twice.
"Exit polls are conducted basing on opinions of a few thousand people at the most. On the ground, there is no question of the NPP losing the seat especially with P A Sangma contesting himself," James said.
"Congress is likely to even lose the Shillong seat," he said.
After breaking away from the NCP in 2012 to contest the Presidential elections, Sangma had launched NPP nationally on January 5, 2013 and announced to join hands with the BJP-led NDA.
