Scribes need self regulation while disseminating news: Mamang

With the changing face of media, the role of a journalist has become more crucial for which it demands more ethical obligation towards society and self regulation, noted writer and journalist Mamang Dai said.
Presenting an overview of the latest trend in media, Dai called upon the media persons to be more factual, objective and accountable towards society and people.
Delivering the keynote address at the National Press Day programme at Mangaldai today, the writer from Arunachal Pradesh said, "News and facts should be disseminated with utmost accuracy. Bias and petty self-interest should be totally avoided as people's intelligence should never be underestimated."

Speaking on this year's theme "Role of Media towards serving public interest", she said that the unhealthy trend of colouring views and analysis creates confusion among the readers and viewers, and the journalist fraternity should do away with this trend.
Inaugurating the event, Assam Information and Public Relations Minister Basanta Das said, "Today's media scenario has become more challenging and hence, requires utmost caution and self regulation".
"The duty and responsibility towards society and people should be given priority by media. Media plays a vital role in building a healthy and prosperous nation," the Minister observed.
The state level programme of National Press Day was organised jointly by the Department of Public Relations, Assam, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University and Darrang district administration in association with Mangaldai Media Circle.
