SDMC seeks alternate land from DDA on NATGRID transfer

The Standing Committee of the SDMC today proposed to seek from DDA an alternate piece of land in lieu of the 10 acres of prime land in south Delhi which the civic body claims the housing authority had "mistakenly allotted" to NATGRID.
"About 10 acres of land in Andheria Mor area in Mehrauli was given to NATGRID (National Grid under MHA) by DDA, but in 2012, when the central agency applied for building laws sanction, the documents showed that the land belonged to the municipal corporation," a senior SDMC official said.
According to South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), one of the three civic bodies formed in 2012 after the trifurcation of the erstwhile unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), an over 22-acre plot of land in Andheria Mor was allotted to the then MCD in 1970 for construction of a 100-bedded hospital.

The issue was deliberated today in the Standing Committee of the SDMC. Mehrauli currently falls under the SDMC area.
"The 10-acre land out of the 22 acres was by mistakenly given to NATGRID and the DDA has acknowledged it. We, therefore, want DDA to give us an alternate piece of land in lieu of this 10 acres," the official said.
"While the DDA has transferred Rs 19.5 crore to SDMC for the wrong allotment, we have proposed to seek the money on the current market rate and not the 2012 rate," he added.
