Kakdwip sub divisional magistrate court judge Sisir Mayukh remanded Sahadeb Patro in custody. Patro was arrested yesterday following confessions of accused Gopal Hazra.
Both Hazra and Patro are locals.
Hazra was arrested on Saturday after the 16-year-old girl's body was found near his home, which was ransacked by angry villagers. He was later sent by the court to police custody for nine days.
The girl's body was found last Saturday after she went missing the evening before while returning from her tutor's home. Post mortem report yesterday confirmed that she was raped before being strangulated to death.
The girl's body was cremated on Monday after an in-camera hearing of her father was conducted at Kakdwip sub-divisional court.
