Security has been beefed up in Nagaland and police patrolling intensified throughout the state ahead the celebration of the 73rd Independence Day, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
Regular coordination meetings among the security forces including state police, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been held to review the overall security arrangements, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Nagaland, R P Kikon told PTI.
Police and security forces have been conducting intensified frisking and patrolling for the last few days to check movement of unwanted elements, he said.
"The overall law and order situation in the state is normal and we hope for a peaceful celebration of the Independence Day, Kikon said.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will unfurl the Tri-colour in the main function at the Secretariat Plaza and Deputy Chief Minister Y Pattan will grace the occasion in Dimapur.
The government has deployed ministers and advisors to address the people during celebrations at the district and sub-divisional headquarters throughout the state.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles carried out a security audit of Kohima town and surrounding areas to priortise and coordinate security measures to avoid untoward incidents, said Lt Col L Vicent Patton, the PRO of the paramilitary force.
Joint operations are also being conducted with police, CRPF and BSF to thwart any attempt of anti-national elements in coming days, he said adding that the security measures are being undertaken so that inimical elements do not disturb peace in Nagaland.
