Andhra Pradesh Ministers and Congress leaders from Seemandhra today slammed the expulsion of six MPs from the party for giving a notice of no-confidence motion against UPA Government over the State's division.
"The MPs have only tried to reflect the views of their people. Their removal is not fair. This is not good for Congress. If they want to do politics by force, it is not correct," Social Welfare Minister Pitani Satyanarayana told reporters here.
He also said Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, a vociferous supporter of united Andhra Pradesh who has been criticising the Congress leadership for conceding the Telangana demand, does not care for his post.
Speculation is rife here that Reddy might soon quit over the Centre going ahead with bifurcation.
Minister for Cooperatives Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy said the expulsion of MPs is unjustified as Parliamentarians only voiced the feelings of their electorate.
"They tried to express their views in a democratic way. Their suspension is unjustified. It will hurt the Telugu people. They need to reconsider this decision," he said.
Congress MLA from Rajahmundry R Suryaprakasa Rao condemned the expulsion of Lok Sabha MP V Arun Kumar, whom he described as "an honest leader totally focused on welfare of his people". The MLA also announced plan to resign from party.
The protagonists of united Andhra Pradesh also slammed the Congress leadership for action against the Seemandhra MPs.
"The expelled MPs will have people's support. The people would give them political future, but not for Congress Government," Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers (APNGOs) Association president P Ashok Babu, who is also the leader of forum for protection of united Andhra Pradesh, told reporters.
Cracking the whip, Congress today expelled Lok Sabha MPs Sabbam Hari, G V Harsha Kumar, V Arun Kumar, L Rajagopal, R Sambasiva Rao and A Sai Pratap, who had given the notice of no-confidence motion against the party-led Government at the Centre.
