"Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has asserted that there is no question of going back on the project, should clarify how and within how much time the project would be completed," NCP spokesman Nawab Malik said here today.
Fadnavis, in an interview to PTI over the weekend, had stated that giving up the project would be a big national waste. "It (Jaitapur power plant) is now at a stage, where one cannot go back," he had said.
Hitting out at the BJP for imposing the Land Ordinance, which is against the interests of farmers, Malik said the entire opposition is united against it.
"In the last eight months, Maharashtra is indirectly (President's rule imposed before the elections) and directly under the BJP rule and about a thousand farmers have committed suicide. Farmers also had to bear the brunt of hailstorm and unseasonal rains. The situation is grim and the government is not providing help and relief to the farmers," he said.
"This means that the Railways accepts that it cannot protect the property of its passengers. Instead of insurance, the passengers need assurance that they are safe during the travel. Is the proposed scheme a conspiracy to further interests of private insurance companies?" he asked adding that the NCP would oppose it in Parliament.
