Congress leader Narayan Rane today said Shiv Sena will suffer defeat in the forthcoming elections to Thane Municipal Corporation.
"Sena used to win elections here because I was with the party. Now you see how badly they will fare in polls," Rane said addressing a gathering of party workers here.
The former chief minister is the election incharge of the district.
"Thane is not a bastion of Shiv Sena. I know the real picture, there is nothing like bastion. We will work towards capturing power and improve our numbers," he told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting.
To a query, he said Congress will soon get a young face as its president in Rahul Gandhi.
Interestingly, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh had yesterday said that Congress expects Rahul to be the party president in 2016.
On the occasion, Rane asked the partymen to not indulge in groupism and fight the elections, slated next year, unitedly.
Thane civic body is currently ruled by Shiv Sena.
Asked if he would contest Legislative Council elections, likely to be held in June for 11 seats, as proposed by state unit Congress president Ashok Chavan, Rane said, "I am not afraid of contests".
On possibility of alliance with NCP for the Legislative Council elections, Rane said a report on the mood among party workers will be submitted to higher authorities.
