The cremation took place at electric crematorium of the Ghat.
Earlier in the day, Left leaders including ex-CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, CPI-ML (Liberation) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, party leader Kavita Krishnan, CPI national secretary Amarjeet Kaur and several trade union leaders paid homage to Mukherjee.
63-year old Mukherjee, who played a major role in organising the party and its major campaigns, had died yesterday following heart attack at a party colleague's residence in Chandigarh where he had gone for a meeting.
