Senior police and paramilitary force officers meet over polls

An inter-state meeting of senior police and paramilitary force officers was held here today to ensure free and fair Assembly elections in Jharkhand.
Senior officers from West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand and from the CRPF participated in the meeting and chalked out a strategy to deal with Maoists and criminals during polling slated for December 2, said DIG (Kolhan) Md Nehal.
"We have decided to exchange information about Maoists and criminals operating in the bordering areas of the states to ensure peaceful polling for 14 Assembly segments in three districts of East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan of Jharkhand," the DIG said.

The officers of West Bengal, Odisha and CRPF have assured all assistance to conduct free and fair elections, he said adding, it was also decided to seal the border and set up check posts at sensitive spots ahead of the polling.
Asked about the recent recovery of huge quantity of explosives, Nehal said it indicated that the security personnel were active to foil any nefarious design.
"We will not be complacent and are prepared to meet any eventuality with the cooperation of West Bengal and Odisha," he said.
CRPF DIG (Operations), West Bengal, B D Das, CRPF DIG (Operations), Chaibasa, Sri Ashok, Superintendents of Police of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Sundergarh and Mayurbhanj districts of Odisha, Superintendents of Police of Midnapore (West), Purulia and Jhargram of West Bengal were present at the meeting along with a host of senior officers from Jharkhand.
