The 30-share index rose 167.22 points or 0.42 per cent to 26,415.52. The gauge had gained 163.66 points in the previous session.
Also, the NSE Nifty regained the 7,900-mark by rising 51.05 points or 0.65 per cent to 7,911.80.
All the sectoral indices, led by oil&gas, realty and IT, were trading in the positive terrain with gains up to 1.42 per cent.
Brokers said sentiment remained positive following exit polls at the end of polling in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry showed BJP winning Assam elections for the first time.
Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei index was up 0.90 per cent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.40 per cent in morning trade.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1 per cent up in yesterday's trade.
