Separatist sponsored strikes down in 2012 in J-K

There has been a multi-fold fall in the strikes sponsored by militants and separatists in 2012, from 132 hartals in 2010 to 17 in 2012, according to data prepared in a recent report of State Home Ministry for upto November 30.

As compared to 2012's figures, 2011 witnessed 22 Hartals (strikes) sponsored by militants and separatists, the report said adding that J-K has seen 8 processions and demonstrations by separatists in 2012 as compared to 135 in 2010 and 13 in 2011.

Giving further details, the report revealed that there were 132 hartals and 135 demonstrations, processions sponsored by militants in 2010, which witnessed summer unrest in the Kashmir Valley.

In 2009, there were only 45 such demonstration, processions and 35 hartals and 15 demonstration, processions and 33 hartals in 2008, the report said.

Militancy incidents are down by nearly 45 per cent this year in Jammu and Kashmir from 195 incidents to 118 incident, the report on militancy compiled by the State Home Ministry for upto November end 2012 said.

Not only this there has been nearly 50 per cent downfall in the civilian and security force killing from 73 to 37 in 2012, it said.

As per the figures, 2012 is year of lowest terror violence in 23 years long militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. (MORE)
